Traveling on USA and Canadian Passport

On arrival in South Africa, your passport will be stamped at customs with a tourist visa for South Africa. This visa is valid for 3 months. There is no cost for the South African visa.

For travelers on safari to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe), Chobe (Botswana), Zambia and Tanzania, upon arrival at the respective borders, you will purchase the visa for the country of entry. The Visas are about $80 per person. I recommend that you take about $300 worth of small bills, ie $1, $5, $10 and $20 as they do not give change in dollars at border posts.

Traveling on Mexican Passport

If you are traveling on a Mexican passport, you are required to apply for a travel visa prior to arrival in South Africa.

Mexican passport holders travelling to South Africa for tourism are eligible to apply for the more convenient eVisa, as long as their trip lasts 30 days or less. All other types of South African visas must be obtained in person through the applicant’s nearest South African embassy or consulate in Mexico.

  • Having a valid Mexican passport

  • Submitting an email address where they can receive the eVisa for South Africa

  • Possessing a debit or credit card to pay the online visa processing fee.

The Mexican passport must have at least 2 blank pages for entry stamps and remaining validity of at least 30 days from the intended departure date from South Africa.

If these conditions are not met, applicants must obtain a new passport before applying for an eVisa.

Since the entire application process for the South African eVisa is done online, candidates are required to have a reliable internet connection and a mobile device to apply from. This can be either a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer.

The South Africa eVisa application process takes around 15 minutes. It can be done at any time from the comfort of the applicant’s home or office. There is no requirement to be in Mexico at the time of application.
