Malaria
Mafigeni is situated in a Low-Risk Malaria area, however, should you be considering traveling to Kruger National Park, we strongly advise you to consider getting malaria preventative tablets. There are a number of medical options, including Malarone, Doxycyclin, Larium, Mephloquin. Please consult with your travel doctor for the preventative best suited to you.
When traveling to Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia, it is essential to take malaria preventatives, as these countries fall into a high-risk malaria area.
Yellow Fever Vaccination
You do not require Yellow Fever Vaccines for South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia Zimbabwe and Botswana, unless you have traveled from a country that has Yellow Fever.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has revised the Yellow Fever vaccination recommendations for Africa. The South African Department of Health has subsequently issued a statement that all travelers from Zambia to South Africa, and travelers that have recently visited Zambia, will now require proof of yellow fever vaccination. Previously, this was not required.
Covid-19
The South African Government announced on June 22, 2022, that the remaining COVID-19 regulations have been repealed. Travelers entering South Africa are no longer required to produce vaccination certificates or recent negative PCR tests.
HIV/AIDS
Please note that there is sadly a high prevalence of HIV in Africa and abstinence, or safe sex is highly recommended. There is no vaccination for HIV.
